The Role
You will own the complete hardware development cycle for satellite PCBAs. Working in a small, fast-moving team, you will design multilayer circuit boards incorporating high-speed digital signals, high-power DC-DC converters, and analog circuitry. You will handle schematic capture, layout, board bring-up, and testing. You will collaborate with RF engineers on RF-containing boards, with RTL and software teams on pinouts and clocking, and with mechanical teams on thermal and enclosure design.
Core Responsibilities
- Design multilayer PCBAs with EMI/EMC best practices for harsh environments (thermal cycles, vibration, mechanical shock)
- Own the complete PCB lifecycle from schematic capture and layout through board bring-up and test
- Develop and analyze complex power trees
- Collaborate with RTL and software teams to define pinouts, bank voltages, and clocking architectures for optimized routing
- Collaborate with mechanical teams on PCB enclosure and thermal design
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Strong grasp of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) in low-to-medium volume, high-complexity production
- Experience with multilayer PCB schematic capture and layout, board bring-up and testing
- Experience designing systems for harsh environments (space, aviation, automotive, etc.)
- Experience with common low-speed digital interfaces (I2C, CAN, UART, etc.)
- Experience with EMI/EMC best practices
- Basic experience writing FPGA RTL or microcontroller firmware
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of FPGA and SoC hardware requirements, including power distribution, high-speed SERDES routing (PCIe, multi-gigabit Ethernet, etc.), memory interfaces
- Basic understanding of RF circuits and RF PCB layout
- Experience working in a startup or small team environment
- Experience designing spacecraft avionics systems
- Advanced experience writing FPGA RTL or microcontroller firmware
