Role

We are looking for a thermal engineer to join one of our Cryogenic Stage Teams. You will be responsible for determining the thermal environment to which the stage and its sub-systems are subjected, with main focus on thermal environment in stage and launcher cavities. You will size the necessary thermal regulation systems, including conditioning and thermal protections, working in close collaboration with thermal engineers from other product teams.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the cryogenic stage development plan by identifying necessary activities to ensure flight worthiness regarding thermal aspects, through simulations and/or tests
  • Define necessary methods and tools to perform required calculations, whether analytical or numerical
  • Benchmark, choose, purchase and support installation of numerical tools for required simulations
  • Calculate thermal environment (radiative, convective and conductive) in stage cavities and on stage structures during all flight phases: ground, atmospheric flight and ballistic phases
  • Define test objectives, measurement plans and necessary sensors; contribute to elaboration of test campaigns, perform test predictions and test exploitations
  • Assess compatibility of stage equipment to thermal environment and propose solutions for incompatibilities (design modifications, additional tests, reduction of calculation conservatisms)
  • Size thermal protections and determine thermal protection materials and technologies
  • Size conditioning systems
  • Support treatment of production anomalies on thermal regulation systems
  • Perform flight simulations and flight exploitations
