About Northwood Space

Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company building a global network of phased array ground stations for real-time, reliable communication on satellite missions including national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. We design, build, and rapidly deploy scalable systems with a vertically integrated approach.

The Role

You will drive the development of digital compute and power electronics for our antenna systems. These complex digital systems ensure high-rate processing no matter where they are deployed around the world. You will work on hardware known for reliability, scalability, and cost.

Your Responsibilities

  • Drive electrical design for high-speed digital communication systems, implementing RF and mixed-signal designs in complex, multilayer PCBs
  • Work with 100G high-speed networking, complex digital power trees, and drive system trades for architecture decisions
  • Perform schematic capture, layout, and bring-up on digital systems including FPGAs, microcontrollers, and associated peripherals
  • Collaborate across hardware and software teams with RF engineers, antenna engineers, FPGA engineers, and firmware engineers to optimize system performance
  • Test prototypes and assess performance in the lab and in the field
  • Work with production teams to ensure products are testable, manufacturable, and ready for in-house integration

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years of professional experience in electrical design
  • Proficiency in high-density/high-speed design, including FPGAs, high-speed data converters, SerDes, 10/100 GigE, networking, and JESD204C
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout design
  • Experience troubleshooting EMI/EMC, either conducted or radiated
  • Knowledge of PCB materials and board stack-up definition
  • Familiarity with soldering and hot air rework methods
  • Experience with full product lifecycle from concept through production

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years designing high-speed mixed-signal electronics and complex multilayer PCBs for FPGA- or processor-based systems
  • Strong expertise in high-speed interfaces and networking such as multi-gigabit SerDes, DDR, JESD204B/C, and 10/100G Ethernet
  • Deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, PCB stack-up definition, and high-performance board layout
  • Proven experience leading hardware development from architecture and prototype bring-up through validation, manufacturing, and production ramp
  • Hands-on experience debugging complex hardware systems using advanced lab instrumentation and driving root-cause analysis
  • Ability to lead cross-functional technical efforts, mentor junior engineers, and make sound engineering tradeoffs in fast-paced environments
