About Observable Space
Observable Space builds precision optics platforms and distributed compute systems for Earth observation and space operations. Our systems serve NASA, JPL, SpaceX, Boeing, RTX, the US Space Force, and leading research institutions. We combine opto-mechanical hardware, embedded compute, and cloud orchestration into mission-critical products, with in-house manufacturing in Los Angeles.
The Role
You will support the assembly, integration, testing, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems for ground-based and space-flight platforms. Working closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, you will ensure high-reliability systems are built and validated to exacting standards.
What You Will Do
- Assemble, integrate, and wire electrical and electronic components, including circuit boards, harnesses, sensors, power supplies, and control systems for ground and flight hardware
- Set up and execute electrical tests: continuity, insulation resistance, functional, and environmental testing (thermal, vacuum, vibration)
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems to identify and resolve root causes of performance issues or failures
- Follow detailed work instructions, schematic diagrams, and engineering documentation to build precision systems
- Maintain accurate documentation of builds, test results, non-conformances, and system configurations
- Support prototype builds and iterative development cycles for new ground support and space systems
- Collaborate with engineering teams to provide feedback on assembly processes, component selection, and design for manufacturability and testability
- Assist with inventory management of electronic components, wiring, specialized tools, and lab equipment
- Support manufacturing and integration teams with assembly, testing, and quality control activities across various platforms
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure alignment on project requirements and timelines
What You Bring
- Associate's degree, technical certification, or relevant hands-on experience in electrical engineering technology, electronics, avionics, or a related field (Bachelor's degree is a plus)
- 0-3 years of experience in electrical assembly, electronic lab work, or precision technical environments, preferably with exposure to aerospace or ground station systems
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits, test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators), and wiring standards
- Experience working with soldering irons, crimping tools, microscopes, and standard electrical lab instrumentation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive, high-precision tasks
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical procedures
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment with high-reliability hardware
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-reliability soldering, cable harness fabrication, and PCB assembly best practices (IPC standards)
- Familiarity with ground support equipment (GSE) or space flight hardware testing and integration
- Experience working in ESD-controlled or cleanroom environments
- Basic knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, or software/firmware loading
- Exposure to CAD tools for electrical design or harness layout (Altium, AutoCAD Electrical)
- Experience supporting qualification testing or acceptance testing for aerospace systems
- Passion for space exploration, satellite technology, or mission-critical ground systems
What We Offer
- Competitive salary aligned with industry standards and your experience
- Equity opportunities with stock options
- Hybrid work environment with minimum 3 days per week in Los Angeles office
- Unlimited PTO for exempt employees, plus paid holidays
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% employer-paid premiums
- Access to cutting-edge hardware and software
- Mission-driven culture focused on meaningful, real-world impact
