About the Role
You will lead a team of propulsion engineers and contribute your own deep technical expertise to engine system development. Your core responsibilities include driving engine system architecture and concept-of-operations trades, managing engine interfaces and negotiating requirements to optimize vehicle performance, and supporting overall engine system development. You may also contribute to engine system analysis, simulation, testing, and tool development.
As a technical leader, you will both coordinate across teams and bring your own technical acumen to complex problems. You will mentor your team, establish priorities, manage projects, communicate with leadership, and support recruiting. Leaders at Relativity balance direct technical contributions with people leadership, guiding team growth while remaining hands-on in problem-solving.
You will work on Aeon R, a novel engine that has never been built before. With each engine test, the team solves new technical mysteries and grows from the challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, technology, or mathematics
- 8+ years of relevant engineering experience in complex system development and/or test environments
- Minimum 2 years direct experience with liquid-propellant rocket engines
- Demonstrated experience leading teams
- Applied knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of fluid components such as valves and instrumentation
- Working knowledge of engine subsystems such as combustion devices and turbomachinery
- Demonstrated drive to deliver on ambitious schedules with unconventional solutions
- Experience mentoring, managing complex interdisciplinary projects, or growing teams through hiring
Work Environment
Full-time, onsite at Relativity Space factory in Long Beach, CA. Approximately 15% travel to test and launch sites. May require shifted schedules or weekend work for critical milestones.
Compensation
Salary range: $160,000 to $240,000 USD. Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, generous PTO and sick leave, parental leave, and an annual learning and development stipend.
