About the Team
The Propulsion team develops and delivers high-performance, manufacturable engines for Terran R. Engineers own the entire lifecycle of their parts, from initial design through production to qualification and flight. The team operates with bottoms-up decision-making and accountability at all levels. Current work includes the flight configuration qualification, plus modifications for future engines including thrust upgrades, new cycles, and design for mass production.
About the Role
As Manager of Turbomachinery Engineering, you will lead the team through design, analysis, and development of all turbomachinery products. You will manage a large team spanning many highly technical disciplines, setting team and department-wide roadmaps to support Terran R development. You will shape how turbomachinery is designed, developed, and evaluated at Relativity.
You will lead collaborative projects to completion with minimal oversight and support your team in doing the same. You should be a self-starter who improves yourself and your team, willing to learn from peers and direct reports. You must care deeply about your team and invest in their growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, technology, or mathematics
- 8+ years relevant engineering experience in complex system development
- Experience leading and developing a high-performing engineering team, driving technical excellence, fostering talent growth, managing performance, and leading recruitment
- Experience with turbomachinery development
- Experience applying fluid, thermal, structural, and mechanical design fundamentals
- Demonstrated drive to deliver on ambitious schedules with unconventional and creative solutions
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or doctorate degree in a relevant technical field
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and commercial tools
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and commercial tools
- Experience with computer aided design (CAD) software
- Experience designing and analyzing turbomachinery components including inducers, impellers, turbines, diffusers, bearings and seals
- Experience developing turbopumps for liquid propulsion rocket engines
- Experience working in a flight development program
Compensation
Hiring range: $160,000 to $246,000 USD. Compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors.
