About the Team

The propulsion team at Relativity Space develops the engines that power the Terran R vehicle. You will own their design from concept through to launch and reuse. The team partners heavily with manufacturing, test, launch, and integration groups to develop engines on an accelerated timeline supporting Terran R's first launch in 2026. You will help build, test, and iterate on the full product lifecycle of the Aeon-R engine systems.

About the Role

As Principal Turbomachinery Test Responsible Engineer, you will develop the assemblies for the fuel and oxidizer turbopumps of the Aeon-R engine family. You will collaborate closely with propulsion development and manufacturing teams to incorporate improvements into future designs.

You should thrive in ambiguity and drive your own projects to completion. You need the passion, tenacity, and resolve to work through challenging issues unique to rocket turbopumps. You will work at the interfaces of design, development, and analysis of turbomachinery. Experience in fast-paced aerospace environments, having completed difficult projects with multidisciplinary teams, is ideal.

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering or related technical field and 12+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Ability to perform structural, thermal, and/or fluid analysis
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery design and analysis practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong understanding of turbomachinery fundamentals
  • Knowledge of turbopump assembly procedures, including rotor balancing, interference fits, clearance checks, structural proofing, and leak checks
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex turbomachinery operational issues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Experience performing turbomachinery analyses (bladed CFD, structural, modal, rotordynamics)
  • Experience designing bladed turbopump components (inducers, impellers, turbines)
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
  • Experience working in a flight development program

Compensation

Hiring range: $185,000 to $277,000 USD. Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, generous PTO and sick leave, parental leave, an annual learning and development stipend, and additional benefits.
