About the Team
The Propulsion team develops and delivers high-performance, manufacturable engines for Terran R. Engineers own the full lifecycle of their parts: design, production, qualification, and flight. The team operates with bottoms-up decision-making and shared ownership. With the flight configuration entering qualification, the team is now exploring thrust upgrades, new cycles, and designs for mass production.
About the Role
You will join the Engine Systems & Test Team, collaborating with component engineers, manufacturing, the Stennis test facility, and the launch team to deliver engines that propel Terran to orbit.
Test responsibilities:
- Serve as Responsible Engineer for propulsion test articles
- Develop test plans in collaboration with product owners
- Execute test campaigns with the Stennis team, troubleshooting technical challenges
- Own exploratory operation of new and existing test article designs, evaluating hardware behavior to support engine development and certification
- Day-to-day work includes writing test sequences, reviewing data, hands-on test article work, writing code, console operation during hotfire tests, designing tooling, and more
Systems work:
- Support engine subsystem troubleshooting
- Investigate partner team products
- Perform engine system analysis, simulation, and trade studies
Additional responsibilities:
- Own projects of your creation to increase team efficiency
- As the vehicle program progresses, participate in stage test and flight campaigns, including console operations for launch, stage test objectives definition, and flight CONOPS development
Work schedule and travel:
- Full-time onsite in Long Beach, CA with approximately 25% travel to test and launch sites
- Rotating 1st and 2nd shift schedules
- Occasional weekend work for critical milestones
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, technology, or mathematics
- Prior internship or research lab experience in complex engineering system development and/or test environment
- Experience applying engineering fundamentals in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
- Problem-solving ability
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Demonstrated ability to execute high-ownership projects on ambitious schedules
Nice to have:
- Exposure to test operations environments
- Working knowledge of combustion devices, valves, heat exchangers, or instrumentation

Compensation
Hiring range: $90,000 to $136,000 USD. Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, generous PTO and sick leave, parental leave, annual learning and development stipend, and additional benefits.
