Senior High Power Electrical Engineer Verified today
About the Team
The Launch team at Cape Canaveral operates across all major aspects of Terran R, from stages and payloads to ground systems, launch, landing, and refurbishment. You will have exposure and responsibility unmatched elsewhere in the program, seeing how first flights come together and managing work that evolves from initial launch through high-cadence reuse operations.
About the Role
- Lead electrical project design and development of construction drawings for launch and processing facility projects, from early requirements through installation and commissioning.
- Design and provide technical direction for electrical systems across voltage levels from 22.5 kV to 120 V, including power generation, distribution, protection, controls, and sequencing.
- Own electrical system requirements, design analyses, equipment selection, and technical reviews while identifying and resolving complex integration, reliability, and operational challenges.
- Develop and review construction drawings, requests for proposals, bid packages, technical specifications, and bid evaluations. Provide technical oversight of subcontractors throughout project execution.
- Lead electrical installation, startup, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities in collaboration with construction, operations, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Partner with management and engineering stakeholders to establish technical approaches, improve design standards, and support development of future Relativity launch and processing facilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- 6 or more years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Experience independently developing and delivering electrical system designs using engineering first principles, including requirements development, analysis, troubleshooting, and technical decision-making.
- Experience with aerospace, utility, or industrial electrical systems involving power generation, distribution, redundancy, protection, controls, or other high-power applications.
- Experience owning electrical projects through multiple phases: design, procurement, construction, commissioning, or operations.
- Experience reviewing technical designs, resolving complex engineering issues, and providing technical guidance to engineers, contractors, or cross-functional project teams.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders across engineering, operations, construction, and management.
- Must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the orbital launch industry or hands-on experience with aviation or rocket ground power systems.
- Experience designing or commissioning medium to high-power electrical systems for utility, industrial, aerospace, or mission-critical facilities.
- Experience applying NFPA, military, NASA, or similar regulatory and technical requirements to electrical system design.
- Familiarity with crane, elevator, or similar equipment involving integrated control and power systems.
Compensation and Benefits
Hiring range: $130,000 to $194,000 USD. Compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, generous PTO and sick leave, parental leave, and an annual learning and development stipend.
