Senior NDE Inspector, Radiography, Second Shift Verified today

Relativity Space · Long Beach, CA · Production · first seen 2026-10-09

About the Role

You will perform advanced Radiographic Testing (RT) inspections on complex aerospace hardware using film and digital radiographic techniques in cabinet, vault, and field environments. You independently interpret and evaluate radiographic images for indications and determine acceptance against engineering drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, document, validate, and publish part-specific radiographic techniques for complex hardware and inspection configurations
  • Work with RT Specialists, NDE Engineers, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve inspection challenges and support feasibility studies, Probability of Detection (POD) studies, and qualification plans
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding and practical application of NDE procedures, inspection plans, techniques, codes, standards, and customer requirements
  • Generate clear, accurate, and comprehensive inspection documentation and reports including detailed radiographic image-analysis results
  • Troubleshoot radiographic inspection processes and equipment; identify sources of image-quality degradation
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Level I and Level II NDE personnel on technique execution, image interpretation, equipment operation, and best practices
  • Communicate inspection results, technical concerns, and potential solutions with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and other stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement of RT inspection processes to improve reliability, repeatability, throughput, and quality

About You

You have 5 or more years of relevant aerospace radiographic testing experience. You must hold or be prepared to obtain:

  • Current IRRSP or equivalent radiation-safety certification
  • Previous Level II certification in Radiographic Testing in accordance with NAS 410, SNT-TC-1A, or equivalent industry standard, with verifiable training, experience, and certification records

You have demonstrated hands-on experience performing film radiography (CR) and/or digital radiography (DR) inspections on complex hardware. You possess extensive and verifiable experience interpreting and evaluating radiographic images, including weld quality, discontinuity identification, image quality, and disposition against acceptance criteria.

You understand radiographic inspection principles and techniques, including exposure parameters, geometric unsharpness, image quality indicators (IQIs), sensitivity, source-to-object/detector relationships, and image-quality requirements. You have experience performing radiographic inspections in cabinet, vault, and/or field environments and working safely with ionizing-radiation equipment.

You can read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria. You independently execute established RT techniques, document inspection results, and produce clear and accurate inspection reports.

You have strong computer skills and proficiency with standard workplace applications for inspection documentation, image review, data entry, and reporting. You can lift up to 25 lbs unassisted and stand or work in inspection environments for extended periods. You are willing to travel approximately 10 to 25% as required.

Nice to Have

  • Certification or experience in additional NDE methods such as PT, VT, UT, and/or ET
  • Experience inspecting welded assemblies, castings, forgings, composite structures, and/or additively manufactured components
  • Experience with conventional film, Computed Radiography (CR), and Digital Radiography (DR) technologies
  • Experience developing, optimizing, or qualifying part-specific RT techniques for complex geometries
  • Experience with digital image processing and radiographic image analysis software
  • Working knowledge of aerospace and NDE standards including NAS 410, ASTM, AWS, ASME, AMS
  • Experience with NDE Engineers and Level III personnel on inspection feasibility studies, technique development, and POD studies
  • Experience performing NDE on additively manufactured materials and components
  • Experience with CAD models and engineering drawings for inspection planning
  • Experience interfacing with or auditing third-party NDE suppliers
  • Experience with QA/QC systems, root-cause/corrective-action processes, and Lean Manufacturing principles
