About the Team
The Propulsion team develops and delivers high-performance, manufacturable engines for Terran R. You will own the entire lifecycle of engine components from design through production, qualification, and flight. The team operates with bottoms-up decision-making and emphasizes ownership and accountability. Current work includes exploring thrust upgrades, new cycles, and design for mass production.
About the Role
You will join the Engine Systems & Test Team, which spans simulation, system-level architecture, requirements, component and integrated system hotfire testing, and more. You will collaborate with component engineers, manufacturing, the Stennis test team, and the Cape launch team to deliver flight-ready engines.
Your responsibilities include:
- Serve as Responsible Engineer for propulsion test articles
- Develop test plans in collaboration with product owners and execute test campaigns at Stennis, troubleshooting technical challenges
- Own exploratory operation of test hardware, evaluating behavior in support of engine development and certification
- Day-to-day work includes writing test sequences, reviewing data, hands-on test article work, writing code, console operation for hotfire tests, designing tooling, and more
- Support engine subsystem troubleshooting, product investigations, system analysis, simulation, and trade studies
- Lead efficiency improvement projects of your creation
- As vehicle development progresses, support stage test and flight campaigns, including launch console operations and concept of operations definition
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in complex engineering system development and/or test environment
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, technology, or mathematics
- Applied knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
- Problem-solving capability
- Demonstrated ability to execute high-ownership projects on ambitious schedules
- Experience working in collaborative environments
Nice to Have
- Exposure to test operations environments
- Working knowledge of combustion devices, valves, heat exchangers, or instrumentation
Work Schedule & Location
- Full-time onsite in Long Beach, CA
- Average 25% travel to test and launch sites
- Rotating 1st and 2nd shift schedules
- Occasional weekend work for critical milestones
Compensation
Hiring range: $132,000 to $198,000 USD. Relativity Space offers competitive salary, equity, generous PTO and sick leave, parental leave, and annual learning and development stipend.
