About the role

ReOrbit is seeking a Senior Electric Propulsion Engineer to lead development of propulsion systems for our Small Satcom project. You will join an experienced team working to reduce the size and cost of GEO satellites while maintaining performance and operational life.

This is a hands-on role requiring someone who has designed, implemented and tested complete propulsion systems before. You will bring a system-level perspective and work alongside existing propulsion engineers, collaborating closely with external vendors and consortium partners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mission requirements analysis for all propulsion operation modes: orbit raising and GEO station keeping
  • Conduct electric propulsion subsystem (EPS) trade-off analysis and define subsystem architecture
  • Define and evaluate thruster layout and configuration options
  • Assess thruster pointing mechanism alternatives: gimbals, arms, implementation constraints and operation/interfaces
  • Develop EPS requirement specifications based on analysis
  • Perform propellant budget and allocation analysis for GEO operations
  • Develop tools to estimate maneuvers and fuel allocation
  • Analyse all interfaces: mechanical, thermal, electrical and system level
  • Contact vendors, select components, and review specification and test results
  • Plan and oversee manufacturing, assembly, integration and test (MAIT)
  • Create EPS subsystem documentation covering architecture, analysis and components
  • Develop subsystem AIT (Assembly, Integration and Test) plan

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years working in propulsion engineering or related fields (mechanical, mechatronics) within the GEO space industry
  • Knowledge and professional experience of electrical propulsion subsystems
  • Experience on GEO communication satellite projects, including operations
  • Ability to analyse data, derive conclusions, manage design documentation and review design changes
  • Comfortable working closely with external vendors and consortium partners; collaborative team approach
  • Fluent written and spoken English
