About the Role

As Senior Payload Engineer, you will be at the heart of ReOrbit's Small Satcom evolution, working end-to-end from design and development to AIT alongside a team of experts. Your expertise in RF and optical engineering at both board and system level will be critical to shaping the future of GEO communications payloads.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical team for telecom payloads on the Small Satcom product
  • Design communication payload architecture including RF and optical systems
  • Budget and maintain key payload parameters: mass, power consumption, dissipation and performance metrics
  • Interface with other satellite subsystem teams to integrate payload into the full system
  • Define and analyse payload components: passive units, RF active units (SSPAs, TWTs, distributed amplifiers, phased arrays, filters, switches), digital processors and optical components
  • Develop supplier relationships; define design and manufacturing requirements for AIT
  • Create Statements of Work and specifications; work with program team to ensure design implementation
  • Collaborate on cross-subsystem problem-solving to ensure efficient mission implementation
  • Work with the AIT team to design and implement integration and test activities at subsystem and satellite level
  • Develop test specifications and procedures
  • Produce subsystem documentation based on architecture, analysis and units

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of real-world experience with comms payload system architecture, requirements definition, flow down, tracking and system-level analysis
  • Strong experience with geostationary satellites
  • Experience in design or implementation of RF equipment for telecom satellites
  • Experience in design or implementation of digital processors (transparent or regenerative) for satellites
  • Ability to analyse data, derive conclusions, and manage design documentation; review and approve design changes
  • Ability to trade-off and optimise performance; resolve complex technical problems; manage technical work with partners
  • Extensive experience with system modelling and analysis tools: electromagnetic simulation, antenna simulation, general purpose coding tools
  • Autonomous, proactive working style with strong team orientation
  • Fluent written and spoken English
