Senior Avionics Engineer I - Mission Formulation
Based in Littleton, CO, the Senior Avionics Engineer I - Mission Formulation develops high-performance launch vehicle systems for Rocket Lab's Global Launch Services Mission Formulation Team. You will work with Engineering, Production, and external customers to formulate and implement classified missions on HASTE and Electron launch vehicles, and develop future missions for Electron and Neutron.
What you will do
- Serve as primary avionics design contact to Business Development for proposal and mission concepts
- Develop operational concepts for Electron and Neutron missions
- Design and analyse electrical and RF systems for unique payload accommodations, vehicle integration, and launch site operations
- Design, document, and specify electrical schematics, harnesses, and kits; provide detailed pinouts for all electrical interfaces to payloads or deployers
- Work with external stakeholders and customers on mission-specific requirements engineering
- Document proposed avionics design solutions and participate in design reviews with customers
- Develop tools and processes to automate common proposal analysis tasks
- Participate in program execution of Electron and Neutron system commissioning and calibration
You will bring
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other technical discipline
- 5 or more years of working experience in engineering
- Experience developing full design solutions for significant avionics or electrical systems in orbital launch vehicle or missile systems
- Active DoD US Government Secret security clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain one
Nice to have
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- Rapid conceptual design iteration experience
- Hands-on development and testing experience with FPGA, ARM processors, etc.
- Ability to take a product from concept through to production with little supervision
- Master's or PhD in electrical engineering or aerospace engineering
- Experience with requirements assessments and interface control document generation
- Creative, analytical, and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and plan daily workflow to meet higher-level tasks
- Clear communication skills and ability to stay calm under pressure
Compensation and benefits
Base salary range (CO): $124,000 to $155,000 USD. Compensation includes company stock or cash incentives, discounted stock purchase program, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, paid parental leave, and other discounts and perks.
US citizenship requirement
