About the Role

You will contribute to advanced system solutions by aligning and directing the technical team throughout the product development lifecycle. You champion the integrated whole during system development, connecting segments and subsystems through top-down decomposition of requirements and bottom-up validation. You shepherd teams through technical milestones, track performance measures, and identify technical risks to deliver compliant and cohesive systems. You are a leader in Systems Engineering principles with expertise in requirements management, system architecture, concept of operations, integration, and verification.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Mechanical System Design and Analysis
  • Mechanical Analysis and Compatibility
  • Mechanical Integration
  • MICD Collection and space operations support

Responsibilities

  • Drive proactive mechanical architecture decisions across the program
  • Lead engineering teams focused on cohesive mechanical system and subsystem design
  • Advise SV Lead and Chief Engineer on system-level impacts and risks related to mechanical subsystems
  • Maintain Mechanical Interface Control Documents (MICDs) between payloads, subsystems, and bus
  • Identify and resolve physical, envelope, and mating conflicts between components before hardware reaches the floor
  • Monitor and report system-level mass, center of gravity (CG), and moments of inertia (MOI)
  • Lead mechanical test definition and planning
  • Provide mechanical functional support to AI&T for mechanical nonconformances
  • Ensure mechanical nonconformances are closed
  • Design mechanical systems from concept through production and flight test
  • Support integration, manufacturing, ground test, and flight operations, incorporating lessons learned
  • Continuously improve engineering workflows, design standards, and digital engineering capabilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience, or Master's degree plus 8 years experience)
  • Typically 10 or more years of related experience (or Master's degree plus 8 years experience)
  • Demonstrated expertise in Systems Engineering principles and practices, including comprehensive understanding of the systems development lifecycle
  • Progressive experience across the system development lifecycle, including requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation
  • Progressive experience developing systems architecture and performing systems integration, verification, and validation (V&V) activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with technical and specialty subject matter expert engineers
  • Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance required
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field
