Electrical Engineer, Facilities Infrastructure
You will provide engineering support for the design, operation, and troubleshooting of facility and onboard electrical components and systems at Cape Canaveral. You will oversee electrical installations and maintenance activities in coordination with Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station personnel.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and specify electrical systems including power distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, lighting, ground support controls, UPS units, generators, automatic transfer switches, power monitoring systems, and site grounding and lightning protection
- Troubleshoot existing electrical equipment, switchgear and controllers
- Perform load flow analysis of electrical power distribution systems
- Evaluate electrical equipment and building grounding
- Ensure equipment interfaces properly with mechanical and electrical systems and facility power budgets
- Coordinate electrical installations and maintenance with local utilities personnel
- Ensure all designs and installations conform to applicable codes and regulations, including NFPA 70E and NFPA 70 NEC
- Provide code review and analysis
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other engineering discipline
- 1+ years of professional experience in design, build, or commissioning of electrical systems (internship experience qualifies)
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years of professional experience with power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS units, and generators
- Ability to read power and control schematics and technical equipment manuals
- Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and industrial pumps
- Experience with MODBUS communication controls
- Previous electrician experience
- Medium voltage distribution experience
- Control panel design and production experience
- Knowledge of power coordination and arc flash
- Ability to work on multiple concurrent tasks
- Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Additional Requirements
- Ability to pass Space Force background checks for Cape Canaveral
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted
- Must be willing to travel between launch sites as required
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, Refugee under 8 U.S.C. Section 1157, or Asylee under 8 U.S.C. Section 1158, or be eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
