Electrical Engineer, Hardware Reliability (Build Reliability) Verified today
Role
The Build and Hardware Reliability organization at SpaceX is an inclusive, inter-disciplinary team committed to the reliability of flight components and production assemblies. You will collaborate with design, test and manufacturing groups, guiding hardware from design to production and operation. You'll use data to understand reliability drivers, support quality objectives in development teams, dive deep on technical problems, and take a system-level approach to prioritize issues for the vehicle as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Partner with design, test and manufacturing to ensure reliability of Avionics parts including controllers, RIOs, sensors, RF, power systems, solar arrays and wire harnessing
- Track yield, test/inspection escapes and ensure past failures and lessons learned are incorporated into new product introduction
- Develop, implement and validate Lean test and inspection processes for new and existing products, ensuring objective criteria and consistent quality goals
- Monitor product and process success through production ramp-up using quality and analysis tools
- Conduct regular build quality reviews to ensure design intent is achieved; identify opportunities for risk reduction and complexity removal to improve manufacturability
- Investigate failures in production, test and flight, identifying and mitigating root causes to reduce risk and improve reliability
- Perform structured electrical root cause analysis using schematics, test equipment and inspection processes to inform design and manufacturing changes
- Perform gage repeatability and reproducibility studies to validate test systems
- Contain suspect or non-conforming product and guide quality inspectors, technicians and engineers on quarantine and rework activities
- Support continuous improvement and Lean production through creation of standard rework/repair guides and optimization of critical processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering
- 1+ years in manufacturing, quality or design engineering role (student project team or internship experience qualifies)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience designing and/or troubleshooting PCBAs
- Experience supporting production and test of complex electromechanical assemblies
- Knowledge of quality tools: Lean principles, measurement systems analysis, design of experiments, statistical process control, root cause analysis and corrective action, APQP, metrology, PFMEA, control plans and problem-solving approaches
- Dedicated to Lean approach to quality without compromising safety or reliability
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends and offsite as needed
Compensation
Level 1: $115,000 - $140,000 per year
Level 2: $135,000 - $170,000 per year
