Hardware Development Electrical Engineer (Starlink Aviation)

Starlink is SpaceX's program to deliver global high-speed internet via a constellation of satellites in low earth orbit launched on Falcon 9 rockets. The Starlink Aviation team develops mobility solutions that connect aircraft to the Starlink constellation and deliver in-flight connectivity.

As an Electrical Design Engineer on Starlink Aviation, you will own the entire lifecycle of hardware enabling in-flight connectivity. You will work at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, and RF engineering, tackling challenges in digital communications, power electronics, avionics, failure analysis, reliability, test automation, and RF devices.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly develop high-reliability electronics for commercial aviation applications.
  • Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, test, and in-flight performance of complex electrical designs.
  • Get hands-on and support hardware through production, aircraft integration and flight.
  • Work closely with engineers from adjacent disciplines (mechanical, thermal, software, test engineering, supply chain) to deliver tightly integrated, high-performance hardware.
  • Challenge assumptions, question requirements, learn from mistakes, and approach problems with an open mind.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience with design/analysis of circuits, electronic products, or electrical hardware (internships and co-ops apply).

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of electronic product experience designing hardware from concept through production, with emphasis on full lifecycle development of new products rather than incremental updates to legacy hardware.
  • 1+ years designing and implementing mixed-signal circuit boards from concept through production using processors, operational amplifiers, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components, Ethernet, I2C, SPI.
  • 1+ years professional experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics.
  • Strong understanding of computers and programming languages (Python, C/C++).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role.
  • Experience working on aerospace grade hardware.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines.
  • Some travel may occasionally be required.

Compensation

Pay range:

  • Electrical Engineer/Level I: $105,000.00 - $122,500.00
  • Electrical Engineer/Level II: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00

Actual level and base salary determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is one part of total rewards.
