IT Windows System Engineer - Top Secret Clearance

SpaceX seeks a Windows Systems Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, networking, and Linux. You will join the Information Technology team supporting SpaceX personnel and systems, working in a fast-paced environment on technologies that enable human life on Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Work with IT administrators and engineers to gather requirements, research, evaluate, design, plan, deploy, and support enterprise software platforms and related technologies.
  • Build highly-resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible systems that meet the needs of demanding SpaceX engineering teams.
  • Apply enterprise technology standards and lessons learned in smaller air-gapped environments.
  • Exercise responsibility for the processes, systems, and tools you create and manage.
  • Make recommendations, justify, and implement improvements using change control methodology.
  • Design and deliver creative solutions and resolve problems in a timely manner by interacting with internal business units.
  • Define, document, and follow standards and best practices for systems design, testing, and implementation.
  • Drive scripting and automation to develop solutions to common problems.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 5+ years of IT systems experience; or 7+ years of IT systems experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of experience with Windows servers in physical and virtualized enterprise level environments.
  • 3+ years of experience with Active Directory, Kerberos, and multi-platform authentication/identification environments.
  • 1+ years of experience with networking technologies and the Linux operating system environment.
  • 1+ year of scripting experience.
  • Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable systems architectures with high availability, fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring, and metrics collection.
  • Expert working knowledge of Windows-based systems and services such as DHCP, DNS, IIS, MS-SQL, NPS.
  • Experience with Enterprise Microsoft Exchange deployments.
  • Expertise in source code and version control tools.
  • Experience with configuration management, provisioning, infrastructure as code, and DevOps concepts and tools.
  • Strong familiarity with Windows Server 2016/2019 (AD, DNS, DHCP, etc).
  • Networking experience in IPv4, switching, routing, firewalls, and HA architecture.
  • Comfort working with mission critical and sensitive systems with appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communications skills with internal/external customers, vendors, and management.

Additional Requirements

  • Active Top Secret or TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and globally (less than 10%) as needed.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing if working on sensitive classified programs.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $130,000 to $175,000 per year.
  • Base salary determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
  • Those with an active clearance will receive a 10% differential, up to an additional $20,000 annually, once officially briefed into a classified program.
