Manufacturing Engineer (Raptor Turbomachinery Machining)
You will develop, implement and scale machining processes for Raptor engine piece parts and assemblies. Working in a fast-paced production environment, you will design for manufacturability, solve cost and quality challenges, and drive processes toward statistical control while meeting aggressive production rates.
What you will own
- Identify and implement machining processes for valve, turbopump, thrust chamber and injector hardware to meet engine cost, quality and production rate goals
- Partner with design engineers to develop design for manufacturing (DFM) updates at piece part and system level; own change management into production
- Design fixtures, manage CAM programming, select cutting tools, and develop inspection methodologies for assigned parts
- Establish part quality accountability and drive projects to ensure dimensions meet requirements with minimal overhead
- Implement machining process controls to enable lights-out operation; leverage latest technologies and programming strategies to reduce in-cycle intervention
- Drive processes toward statistically controlled (SPC) environment and develop tools to demonstrate capability
- Oversee introduction and implementation of new products and product revisions, often multiple in parallel
- Collaborate with machinists, technicians and quality to ensure robust processes and rapid problem resolution
- Ensure on-time or ahead-of-schedule delivery of assigned hardware
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or physics
- 1 or more years experience in a manufacturing environment (student project team and internship experience qualifies)
Preferred experience
- Strong machining concepts and hardware production experience
- Design or product development engineering background
- Master's degree in mechanical, manufacturing or aerospace engineering
- Mechanical component and tooling design and analysis using 3D CAD
- Process development from R&D to volume manufacturing
- Writing work instructions and procedures for critical aerospace parts
- Production environment experience in aerospace industry
- Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel
Work requirements
- Hands-on position requiring standing for extended periods and direct work with hardware on the production floor
- Must be comfortable stooping, bending and standing
- Occasional travel, long hours or weekend work may be required
Compensation
Base salary Level 1: $100,000 to $130,000 or Level 2: $115,000 to $160,000, determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge, skills, education and experience.
