PCB Designer (Starmind)
SpaceX is developing Starlink, the world's largest satellite constellation providing broadband internet to 7M+ users globally. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system: thousands of satellites, consumer receivers, and the software that brings it all together.
As a PCB Designer, you'll create layouts for all in-house board designs. You'll partner closely with Hardware Development Engineers during schematic development, provide expertise at design reviews, and iterate designs to deliver optimal solutions. You'll work on diverse applications from radio phased arrays to solar power converters.
Responsibilities
- Determine layer stackup, perform component package selection, component placement, routing feasibility studies, and signal routing of digital, analog, RF, and power conversion PCBs
- Create and maintain component libraries
- Create and release PCB fabrication documentation
- Collaborate with internal teams and PCB vendors to improve design rules, constraints, and design for test and manufacture guidelines
- Utilize PCB design tools, evaluate new tools, and train team members
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 1+ years professional PCB layout experience, OR 3+ years professional PCB layout experience without a degree (internships and project work count)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 2+ years PCB layout and routing with modern passive and active components, surface-mount, RF components, ball-grid arrays, or high pin density components
- 1+ years ECAD libraries and library configuration management
- Design for manufacturability, assembly, and test
- Mentor Xpedition and/or Altium Designer (Mentor Xpedition preferred)
- Mixed analog and digital designs, high speed buses, FPGA, DRAM, CPU designs, power supplies, DC-DC converters, transmission lines, impedance-controlled and power traces
- MIL-STD, commercial and IPC standards and design
- Parts monitoring and industry-wide component tracking
