Platform Engineer, Flight Software (Starlink)
As an infrastructure engineer on the Starlink flight software team, you are responsible for the software that enables rapid iteration and deployment of both ground and satellite software. You will identify slowdowns in developer iteration, inefficiencies in the build system, and unnecessary interface complexity, then fix them. You will work closely with other Starlink engineers to identify and resolve their biggest challenges. You own the full lifecycle of the software you write, from conception to test to maintenance.
What you will do
- Maintain flight code generation tooling for flight software and GNC engineers
- Maintain core flight software features shared across satellite products
- Work closely with flight software developers to understand slow and error-prone aspects of embedded software development and fix them
- Invent tools and processes that enable fast, accurate, and easy-to-use development and operational systems
- Engage ground software teams to understand where flight systems should change to simplify constellation operations
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline, OR 2+ years of software development experience
- Development experience in C/C++, Python, or similar programming languages
Preferred skills and experience
- Knowledge of Bazel, C++, Python, Bash
- Experience identifying and improving performance bottlenecks in build systems and embedded environments
- Experience designing aesthetic and easy-to-use user interfaces for software engineers
- Experience designing fault tolerant, distributed, or real-time embedded systems
- Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery systems
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively across teams in a solution-oriented manner
- Ability to work independently or in a team
Additional requirements
- Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed
Compensation and benefits
Pay range: Level 1: $125,000-$165,000 per year; Level 2: $145,000-$200,000 per year. Actual level and salary determined case-by-case based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
