Propulsion Technician - Raptor Chamber & Nozzle Assembly & Final Assembly, Level 4/5 - 2nd Shift Verified today
About the role
As a Propulsion Technician, you will assemble and test rocket hardware for the Raptor engine program. You'll work on main combustion chambers, nozzles and thrust chamber assemblies using multiple welding and fabrication methods. This role requires mechanical knowledge, hands-on skill, and the ability to troubleshoot anomalies while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Clean, prepare and assemble combustion chamber assemblies and sub-assemblies for EB welding, laser welding, TIG welding or brazing
- Operate machinery including DAVI roll formers, automated TIG welding machines and hydro-forming equipment
- Run automated machines for surface preparation and thermal barrier coating
- Read technical drawings and follow detailed work instructions
- Use precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers and calipers
- Perform blending, filing and shearing of sheet metal parts
- Operate forklifts, cranes and heavy equipment
- Stage, install, set-up, test and de-tool thrust chamber assemblies and subassemblies
- Troubleshoot engines and test cell systems
- Operate test cell instrumentation and computer network systems
- Accept or reject test units based on test data and results
- Maintain clean tools, equipment and work area
Basic qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 6 or more years of experience in production, mechanical or manufacturing environment
Preferred experience
- Aerospace manufacturing experience
- Experience staging, installing and de-staging propulsion engines
- Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license
- 5 or more years working on aircraft or rocket engines
- Knowledge of pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and propulsion engines
- Strong problem-solving, mathematical and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet aggressive schedules
- Experience with automated asset user interfaces and hydrostatic proof testing
Physical requirements
- Able to lift minimum 25 lbs unassisted
- Able to stand for extended periods, 8 hours minimum
- Able to stoop, bend, crawl and maneuver in tight spaces
Work schedule
2nd shift, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM, with overtime and weekends as needed.
Compensation
Level 4: $36.00 to $43.00 per hour
Level 5: $41.00 to $51.00 per hour
Actual level and salary determined based on job-related knowledge and skills, education and experience.
