Sr. Chemical Engineer, PCB (Starlink/Starmind)
Starlink is building the world's largest satellite constellation to deliver high-speed internet globally. As a Chemical Engineer on the PCB team, you will spearhead state-of-the-art production processes for printed circuit boards. You will design and implement environmentally friendly chemical recycling strategies, develop processes for mass production, and become an expert in PCB fabrication. Your work will support millions of next-generation consumer devices shipped to homes, RVs, aircraft, and boats worldwide. You will own various PCB production processes from initial machine design through hands-on process DOEs, working regularly with senior leadership. By end of this year, the Starlink factory in Bastrop will be North America's largest PCB manufacturing facility by volume.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain new or improved manufacturing processes, equipment, technologies, and facilities including metal plating lines, copper etching lines, direct or electroless metallization lines, water and chemical waste treatment, and plasma etching systems
- Analyze production processes and machinery using first principles and physics-based approaches
- Develop experiments to diagnose and correct manufacturing problems using robust DOE and statistical methodologies
- Perform defect characterization and root cause analysis to develop action plans improving yields
- Develop project plans, budgets, and cost/benefit analyses for new processes or machines
- Own and perform machine activation and testing with a small team of engineers and technicians
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 3+ years of experience in chemical engineering design, analysis, and/or system implementation (internship and extracurricular experience applicable)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience in chemical engineering design, analysis, and/or system implementation
- Hands-on experience working with complex fluid or mechanical based production systems in a professional setting
- Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing and scaling to high volume as part of a cross-functional team
- Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
- Experience with PCB manufacturing processes: metal plating lines, copper etching lines, direct or electroless metallization lines, water and chemical waste treatment, plasma etching systems
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel frequently for work, potentially for extended periods during machine buyoffs and startup
- Ability to lift 25 lbs unassisted
- Physical demands: lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying
ITAR Requirements
