The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer on Starlink, you'll own the entire life-cycle of the hardware that enables global broadband connectivity. Your work spans system design, schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, hardware troubleshooting, and requirements for silicon and production test. You'll work at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, and RF engineering.

You may be placed on one of two sub-teams based on technical fit and preference:

  • Avionics: Design the bus systems that control satellites, convert and distribute kilowatts of power, route high-speed traffic, and connect satellites via space lasers.
  • Payload: Design phased arrays, parabolic antennas, and custom compute and modem electronics for customer connectivity.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly develop high-reliability electronics for satellites and spacecraft.
  • Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, test, and on-orbit performance.
  • Support hardware through production, satellite integration, and flight.
  • Work closely with mechanical, thermal, software, test engineering, supply chain, and silicon design teams.
  • Challenge assumptions, question requirements, and approach problems with an open mind.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or physics.
  • 5+ years of industry experience designing circuits, electronic products, or hardware.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar field.
  • 2+ years designing and delivering highly reliable products.
  • 2+ years of full life-cycle hardware product development from concept through production.
  • 2+ years designing mixed-signal circuit boards with processors, FPGAs, Ethernet, multi-GHz Serdes, DDR4 interfaces, I2C, SPI, op-amps, ADC/DAC, and power supplies.
  • 2+ years testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics.
  • Strong understanding of computers and programming (Python, C/C++).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role.
  • 2+ years working on aerospace systems.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines.
  • Some travel may occasionally be required.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range (Level 3): $140,000 - $235,000

Base salary is determined case-by-case based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. You may also receive long-term incentives in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and the ability to purchase stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
