The Starship electrical hardware development team builds advanced electronics for rockets and spacecraft, delivering high-reliability systems at unprecedented speed and cost. You will join a fast-moving hardware team working on the technologies to enable human life on Mars.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and test DC-DC power converters and power distribution products for harsh environments
- Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test
- Work on electrical power system and subsystem level design trades and develop requirements
- Rapidly develop high-reliability electronics for rockets and spacecraft
- Work with experts from other teams to drive changes that improve efficiency, manufacturability, and reliability
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, or testing circuit boards or other electronics (research, internships and extracurricular academic projects qualify)
Preferred Experience
- Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field
- Design of switching power converters, power magnetics, analog control loops, solid state load switches, motor inverters, or sensor signal conditioning circuits
- Circuit board layout for switching power converters or high-speed digital applications
- Experience with high voltage devices, lithium ion batteries, or power distribution optimization
- Design of custom transformers, inductors, and planar magnetics
- Modeling, simulation, and testing of power electronics
- Voltage and current mode control and compensation design
- DC-DC topologies and optimal component selection
- Design for fault tolerance, reliability, and failure mode effects analysis
- Power supply testing and packaging for harsh environments
- Spacecraft electrical power systems and radiation effects knowledge
- Circuit board design-for-manufacturing and productization of electronics
- Automating hardware development functions through scripting and analysis tools
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven environment with excellent communication skills
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range: $140,000 - $205,000 (actual level determined case-by-case based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience).
