TIG Welder, Combustion Devices (Raptor)
This TIG welding position is on the Raptor engine system team, which powers Starship and Super Heavy. You will be responsible for the construction and assembly of fluid systems for the Raptor rocket engine.
Responsibilities
- Weld, assemble, and fabricate various fluid systems and sub-assembly components
- Repair casting defects via grinding, welding, and blending
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations
- Read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, and CAD drawings
- Use precision calibrated tools (micrometers, depth gauges, calipers)
- Conduct in-process inspection
- Operate general shop equipment and vehicles (forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts)
- Take operational ownership of the weld area equipment and processes
- Drive problem solving, cost reductions, and process improvements
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of experience with aerospace TIG welding
- 1+ years of experience fitting welded assemblies
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of welding experience with stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, aluminum, or titanium
- Proficiency in tube cutting, grinding, and fabrication (small and large diameter up to 6 inches)
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and layout
- Experience completing welds that pass visual inspection before X-ray or dye penetrant testing
- AWS D17.1 and D1.2 certification
- Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts
Additional Requirements
- Able to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs unassisted
- Able to stand for extended periods (8 hours minimum)
- Able to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces
Compensation
Pay range varies by level and experience:
- Level 1: $23-$27 per hour
- Level 2: $26-$33 per hour
- Level 3: $31-$38 per hour
