About Star Catcher
Star Catcher is building the world's first orbital energy grid: the Star Catcher Network. Spacecraft connect into the network and receive conditioned energy via their existing solar arrays, with no retrofit needed. The network delivers power from tens of Watts to tens of thousands of Watts.
The Role
You will design, analyze, and implement electrical systems and components for space-to-space power beaming spacecraft and the Star Catcher orbital power grid.
Responsibilities
- Design COTS-based PCBAs for space environments, including motion controllers, power distribution, analog processing, and control systems.
- Rapid prototype electrical systems to verify performance and reliability.
- Oversee manufacturing and assembly of electrical hardware; work with suppliers to procure parts meeting design specifications and quality standards.
- Conduct R&D to innovate new technologies or improve existing systems.
- Work with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems into spacecraft and satellites, ensuring material compatibility with design specifications and operational requirements.
- Create technical documentation including schematics, specifications, and test plans.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets for electrical engineering tasks.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- At least 5 years of electrical engineering experience, specifically designing Class III IPC 6012 PCBs for space environments.
- Experience with Altium Designer.
- Experience leading electrical system development for challenging environments and missions.
- Experience with NASA/DoD life cycle and technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).
- Creative problem-solving skills and capability to develop innovative solutions to advanced engineering challenges.
Desired Skills
- Proven experience on at least one space vehicle program with batteries, microprocessors, FPGAs, solar arrays, or power distribution/conversion systems.
- Familiarity with space industry regulations and safety standards.
- Effective communication and ability to interface across disciplines and prioritize multiple projects and personnel.
