About the role
As a Launch Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer at Stoke Space, you will support commissioning and operating a new launch pad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. You'll lead EHS across Stoke's Florida sites, maintaining environmental stewardship and ensuring operations meet the highest standards for employee and environmental safety. Working in a small, well-supported team, you'll have the resources and opportunity to develop skills rapidly while managing critical safety systems for a fully reusable launch vehicle programme.
Responsibilities
- Support EHS strategy for launch site development, vehicle processing, testing, and launch operations
- Maintain, implement, and enforce EHS policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with industry best practices
- Ensure design, build, and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations
- Complete system safety hazard analyses and job-specific hazard assessments
- Review and approve launch complex hazardous procedures
- Support anomaly investigation, response, and closure
- Implement engineering controls to eliminate or reduce occupational and compliance risk
- Implement and maintain environmental and safety management systems
- Investigate, document, report, and resolve workplace incidents
- Establish and maintain hazard clear areas
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
- Maintain Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasures (SPCC), industrial wastewater permitting, and Light Management Plans (LMPs)
- Support Environmental Baseline Surveys (EBS), Biological Assessments (BA), and Environmental Assessments (EA)
- Coordinate with FDEP, SLD 45, FAA, and NASA
- Develop contractor and staff training programmes
- Cultivate a strong safety culture at the launch site
Requirements
- 7+ years EHS experience in new site construction and operations for high-performance applications (space, aviation, amusement park, oil & gas, heavy equipment, energy systems, or maritime)
- Proven experience developing and implementing system safety and occupational safety programmes
- Experience standing up and running EHS programmes including OSHA, fall protection, lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, job site safety, hazmat, and waste streams
- Experience with EHS tools in launch complex environments: hazardous gas detectors, FLIR cameras, sound meters
- Proven ability to lead, work autonomously, and perform on high-performing teams
- OSHA 30 Hour Certified or OSHA 511/510 Certifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, EHS, or similar field
- Willing to relocate to Cape Canaveral, FL
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with high pressure gas systems, cryogenic liquid systems, high power systems, or explosive ordnance
- Launch operations experience as pad entry team or Red Team member
- Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710, MSPSP, HazOp range requirements, and DoD explosive siting for launch programmes
- Experience working with 45th SW, 30th SW, NASA, ATF, Coast Guard, or Port Canaveral
- Master's degree in engineering, management, EHS, or similar field

- Target salary Level 3: $129,150 - $193,620
