About the role

Stoke's Valves and Actuators team designs, develops, tests and produces valve and actuator components for Nova, our fully reusable launch vehicle. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of valve designs for both stages and engines: defining requirements, designing components, manufacturing planning, testing, and qualification.

Our components serve critical applications including engine flow control valves, large propellant valves, high-pressure gas valves, throttle valve actuators, and engine gimbal TVC actuators. You will work as the owner of your designs, supported by a small, well-resourced team that moves fast and learns continuously.

Responsibilities

  • Collect design requirements from multidisciplinary teams and create valve and actuator concepts
  • Design components for Nova using Siemens NX CAD software
  • Perform structural analysis using hand calculations and FEA software
  • Perform fluids analysis using hand calculations and CFD software
  • Create manufacturing plans for high-rate production and participate in builds on the production floor
  • Create procedures for and execute acceptance testing, development testing, and qualification testing
  • Coordinate with suppliers to procure parts
  • Incorporate design for manufacturing best practices to improve production efficiency
  • Work with vehicle fluids, engines, and GNC teams to develop CONOPs and troubleshoot hardware issues

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or similar
  • 5 or more years of experience in design, build, and testing of valves for aerospace or industrial applications
  • Hands-on experience fabricating and assembling components
  • Strong fundamentals in compressible flow, thermodynamics, structures, control systems, cryogenics, and instrumentation
  • Understanding of revision-controlled P&IDs
  • Understanding of aerospace standard fasteners, seals, tubing, fittings, and commercial off-the-shelf hardware
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Preferred qualifications

  • Proficiency with instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, load cells, accelerometers, and flow meters
  • Proficiency with fluid analysis tools such as Siemens AMESim, REFPROP, Excel, or Matlab
  • Proficiency in GD&T, tolerance stackups, and material selection
  • Extensive experience with CAD tools and configuration management, particularly Siemens NX and Teamcenter

Compensation and benefits

Target salary ranges:

  • Level 4: $151,305 to $252,105
  • Level 5: $176,505 to $327,810

Your actual level and base salary will be determined based on your specific experience and skill level.

Requirements
