The Role

We are seeking a Data Systems Engineer at Level I, II, or Senior level to support design, integration, testing, and maintenance of hypersonic aircraft avionics systems. This role focuses on data processing and software tool development, with collaboration across system owners to understand test requirements and operations support needs for multiple test ranges.

What You Will Do

  • Manage and process flight test data in industry standard and non-standard formats in a centralized database
  • Create and maintain new data ingestion methods as required
  • Troubleshoot and resolve flight test data quality issues; determine root cause and corrective action
  • Support development and maintenance of software tools including configuration management, simulation, deployment, and analysis tools
  • Determine, document, and manage subsystem requirements for each new configuration
  • Develop and support instrumentation, network, and telemetry tests
  • Support integration testing such as power checks, sensor calibration, and equipment checkout
  • Collaborate with design engineers, network engineers, and technicians
  • Prepare data system material for design reviews, flight readiness reviews, and post-operation reviews

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Telemetry, Instrumentation, or Network engineering in an operational or regulated test environment
  • Experience with Ethernet networking and familiarity with TCP, UDP, multicasting, etc.
  • Experience integrating data acquisition instrumentation (Analog, discrete, and digital protocols such as ARINC 429) from distributed systems with mission control software
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and dataloggers
  • Experience writing system requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Department of War security clearance

Required Computer Skills

  • Expertise with at least one programming language such as C/C++ or Python
  • Experience developing data processing scripts for Windows and Linux environments
  • Familiarity with continuous integration toolchains such as Jenkins or Bamboo
  • Experience with source control systems such as git
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Visio)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Flight test program instrumentation system experience
  • Aircraft and/or launch vehicle development experience
  • Experience configuring and monitoring telemetry components for end-to-end testing (encode, transmit, receive, decode)
  • Knowledge of IRIG 106 CH4, CH 7, CH 10 or other telemetry standards
  • Hands-on aircraft build, piloting, and flight test experience
  • Mission Control Room console experience
  • Active Department of War TS/SCI security clearance

Preferred Computer Skills

  • Experience with relational, document, and time-series databases
  • Experience with Curtiss-Wright or Safran Data Acquisition Units
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Basics for Applications (VBA)

Education and Experience

  • Level I: Bachelor's degree from accredited institution and 0-2 years of engineering experience, or equivalent combination. Salary range $68,000 to $109,000.
  • Level II: Bachelor's degree from accredited institution and 2-5 years of engineering experience, or equivalent combination. Salary range $82,500 to $132,500.
  • Senior Level: Bachelor's degree from accredited institution and 5-10 years of engineering experience, or equivalent combination. Salary range $98,000 to $158,000.

Work Environment

  • Position is on-site based in Mojave, California
  • Travel as needed to support the department; estimated at less than 10%
  • 9/80 work schedule
