About the role

The Exploration Company is building innovative aerospace technologies for space transportation. We need an AIT MGSE Engineer to design and deliver the ground support equipment required for capsule preparation, assembly and testing.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering and AIT colleagues to define requirements and timelines for MGSEs across assembly and testing activities
  • Conceptualise, design in CAD and produce manufacturing drawings for ground support equipment
  • Confirm design compatibility with external loads using mechanical analysis, hand calculations and proof tests
  • Discuss MGSE designs with suppliers for manufacturing ease and optimal processes
  • Track manufacturing and procurement with suppliers, answer technical questions and ensure timely delivery
  • Provide instructions and support assembly, commissioning and implementation of MGSEs

What we're looking for

  • Mechanical or Aerospace engineering degree with focus on machine or structural design
  • Minimum 2 years experience in CAD design and drafting (Siemens NX or similar) and FE analysis (Hypermesh or similar)
  • Strong understanding of machine design, manufacturing processes (machining, welding), design for manufacturing and GD&T
  • Familiarity with margin calculation methodologies for beams, bolted joints, welds and similar applications
  • Experience designing test setups, jigs and fixtures, and planning or executing mechanical tests (a plus)
  • Strong documentation skills: design descriptions, assembly instructions, test reports
  • Creative problem-solving and technical troubleshooting ability
  • Basic hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and simple machining tools like drilling machines
  • Previous space AIT and MGSE design experience highly appreciated
  • Fluent English (German a plus)
