About the role

The Exploration Company is developing cutting-edge propulsion systems for space transportation. We're seeking a Turbopump Principal Engineer to lead turbomachinery development for our high-thrust engine as part of the Future Project division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor an engineering team with diverse expertise and seniority; set objectives, conduct reviews, and support team development
  • Oversee development of turbomachinery systems for a high-thrust liquid rocket engine, managing planning, resources, and design reviews
  • Lead technical decisions for turbopumps and supporting infrastructure (test stands, manufacturing capabilities)
  • Oversee tests to validate turbopump component performance and reliability
  • Identify, evaluate, and collaborate with suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery
  • Anticipate risks and propose mitigation actions
  • Support proposal preparation with the Business Team

What you'll need

  • Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline (or Bachelor with honors for NZ/AUS applicants)
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience
  • Proven experience leading space projects from early design through development, testing, and hardware qualification
  • Strong understanding of liquid-propellant rocket engines as systems
  • Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics and mechanical design
  • Understanding of rotordynamics and machine dynamics
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and their constraints
  • Proven supplier management experience
  • Fluent English; German is an asset
