About the role
The Exploration Company is developing cutting-edge propulsion systems for space transportation. We are seeking a Turbopump Rotordynamics Engineer to join our Future Project division and take ownership of turbopump design and analysis for high-thrust rocket engines.
Key responsibilities
- Make and document well-reasoned decisions in turbomachinery design
- Engage with development engineers to conceive, refine and validate designs
- Carry out and review turbopump architectural trades
- Perform rotor dynamics analysis to inform cryogenic pump component specifications
- Design and procure cryogenic pump components based on specifications and best practices
- Supervise external subcontractors and communicate with suppliers
- Perform analytical modeling of geometric and mechanical problems and implement solutions in software
What we need
- Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline (or Bachelor with honors for NZ/AUS candidates). Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with substantial relevant experience
- 3-5 years of proven experience with fast rotating machinery
- Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics and mechanical design
- Strong fundamentals in rotordynamics and machine dynamics
- Strong knowledge of bearings and rolling elements
- Good knowledge of materials
- Good understanding of industry standard and emerging manufacturing methods and their constraints
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software and drafting
- Experience writing software or scripts in Python or similar languages
- Optional: hands-on experience developing hardware from concept to working prototypes
