About the Role
You will be a key member of a small, talented team refining turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms for hypersonic, solid rocket motor, and satellite maneuvering applications. You will own portions of turbopump technology, provide active input in engine test and development, and report to the Manager of Turbomachinery Core Technology.
This is a hybrid position based in Berthoud, Colorado, with an expectation to work on-site 2-3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as a subject matter expert in one or more key areas, performing design trades, preliminary design work, and analysis.
- Collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to deliver high-performing, state-of-the-art detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight-ready.
- Support existing Ursa Major turbomachinery to troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in your area of expertise.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- 2+ years' experience in turbomachinery design and development with 5+ years' experience in an engineering discipline.
- 2+ years' experience with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Significant experience or technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: rotor dynamics and balancing fundamentals; turbine stage aero-mechanical design; hydrodynamic design of pumps and inducers; turbomachinery detailed layout and design.
- Experience in turbomachinery-related analysis software (ANSYS FEA, CFD, or other specialized software as applicable).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with structural and thermal analysis using ANSYS FEA software.
- Proficiency in major industry CFD software (CFX, Fluent, etc.).
- Experience in liquid rocket engine design, test, or analysis.
Compensation and Benefits
Base compensation range: $112,000-$140,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
