About the Role
You will be a key member of a small talented team refining turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms. You will own portions of turbopump technology and provide an active voice in engine test and development. This is a hybrid position based in Berthoud, Colorado with the expectation to work on-site 2-3 days per week. You will report to the Manager of Turbomachinery Core Technology.
Responsibilities
- Support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as the subject matter expert in one or more key areas, performing necessary design trades, preliminary design work and analysis.
- Collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to deliver high-performing state-of-the-art turbomachinery detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready.
- Support existing Ursa Major turbomachinery to troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in your area of expertise.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- 5+ years experience in turbomachinery design and development with 8+ years experience in an engineering discipline.
- 5+ years experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced startup environment.
- Significant experience and technical expertise in one or more of: rotor dynamics and balancing fundamentals; turbine stage aero-mechanical design; hydrodynamic design of pumps and inducers; turbomachinery detailed layout and design.
- Experience in turbomachinery-related analysis software (ANSYS FEA, CFD or other specialized software as applicable).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with structural and thermal analysis using ANSYS FEA software.
- Proficiency with major industry CFD software (CFX, Fluent, etc).
- Experience in liquid rocket engine design, test or analysis.
Compensation and Benefits
Base compensation range: $132,000 to $165,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Classification: Full-time Exempt
