About the role
As a Turbomachinery Design Engineer II, you will be a key member of a small and talented team working toward refining turbomachinery across multiple engine platforms. You will own portions of turbopump design and provide an active voice in engine test and development.
Responsibilities
- Perform clean sheet design of turbopump subcomponents and assemblies to meet all system level requirements
- Incorporate design modifications of existing components to increase performance, improve manufacturability, and resolve limitations
- Support turbomachinery-related root-cause analysis efforts
- Support analysis to ensure turbopumps meet all system level requirements
- Collaborate with the manufacturing, analysis, and test teams to reduce part-to-part variation and discrepancies to improve product performance and yield
- Support assembly of first article prototypes
Required qualifications
- Minimum B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years' experience in design, development, and testing
- 3+ years' experience within hardware-focused organizations
- 3+ years' experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment
- Design experience in one or more of the following: Mechanical Design, Bearing Design, Seal Design, Rotor dynamics, balancing fundamentals, DFM, GD&T and blueprint review
- Track record of clear communication between design, manufacturing, and test operations to ensure products meet all specifications
Desired skills and experience
- 2+ years' experience in turbomachinery design, development, and testing
- Experience operating in ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified organizations
- Demonstrated success as project lead
- Working knowledge of thermodynamics of incompressible flows and cryogenic fluids
- Demonstrated proficiency with basic principles of design for additive manufacturing
- Liquid propellant rocket engine design, test, or analysis
- Experience with structural and thermal analysis using Ansys FEA software
- Experience of 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation in CAD
Compensation and classification
Base compensation range: $91,000 - $116,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Full-time Exempt.
