Valley Tech Systems (VTS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Voyager Technologies, is an engineering company specializing in controllable solid propulsion and airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) technologies for the U.S. Government and commercial space industry.

The Role

The Electrical Engineer V reports to the Systems Engineering Manager in the Strategic Systems department, based in Folsom, CA (or Reno, NV). You will lead the design, integration, and qualification of complex electronic hardware systems for advanced DoD missile defense and aerospace applications. The focus is high-reliability system design for controllable solid propulsion technologies, including divert attitude control systems. You will work with systems, mechanical, and propulsion engineering teams to meet DoD and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) performance, safety, and mission assurance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead electrical engineer for hardware development on DoD and MDA programs involving controllable solid propulsion systems
  • Lead a team of electrical engineers through design, analysis, integration, and test phases
  • Drive electrical design execution and issue resolution within the engineering team
  • Design and oversee development of complex controller electronics, high-reliability interconnects, and sensor interfaces
  • Ensure compliance with electrical and electromagnetic design standards including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, IPC J-STD-001, IPC-2221, and MIL-PRF-38534/38535
  • Support system architecture development and trade studies for divert attitude control system configurations and other propulsion systems
  • Perform FMEAs, fault tree analyses, and worst-case circuit analyses to meet mission assurance goals
  • Interface with suppliers and test labs for hardware qualification, EMI/EMC certification, and electrical test protocols
  • Prepare technical documentation for customer delivery including ICDs, test reports, and qualification packages
  • Present design approaches, risks, and readiness at internal and customer design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR)
  • Support integration and test campaigns including system bring-up and troubleshooting

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; active clearance preferred
  • 10+ years of electrical hardware design experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or missile systems
  • Proven ability to lead electrical engineering teams through full development lifecycle
  • Experience with actuation systems, propulsion controls for missiles or interceptors, and related subsystems including actuators and initiation systems
  • Hands-on experience with qualification of flight hardware to applicable military and aerospace standards
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition lifecycle, particularly for Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and other Department of Defense (DoD) programs
  • Strong organizational and technical communication skills, including presenting to internal and government stakeholders
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant engineering discipline
  • Effective leadership and mentoring skills within an electrical engineering team
  • Proficient in design and analysis of analog and digital circuits, including schematic creation and interpretation
  • Background in actuation system control, motor drive circuits, or power conditioning for missile systems
  • Skilled with Altium Designer, OrCAD, PSPICE, or similar schematic/layout and simulation tools
  • Experience with signal integrity, grounding/shielding, and EMI/EMC best practices
  • Proficient with lab instrumentation and test automation tools for hardware verification
  • Understanding of safety-critical design practices, including redundancy, fault isolation, and mission assurance
  • Ability to develop, review, and defend technical documentation to DoD and MDA customer standards
  • Familiarity with MDA MAP and PMAP requirements
