Lead Electrical Hardware Engineer - Avionics

Voyager Lunar Systems is seeking a Lead Electrical Hardware Engineer - Avionics to manage the avionics team responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing in-house avionics hardware across all company product lines. This hybrid role is based in Pittsburgh, PA and reports to the Electronic Systems Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Lead development of flight hardware avionics including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command and data handling (C&DH)
  • Lead daily operations, scheduling, and tasking for the avionics team
  • Provide technical and programmatic guidance to internal avionics team members (employees, subcontractors, consultants) and partner support personnel
  • Establish review processes for avionics engineering products prior to release and manufacturing
  • Provide subject matter expertise in subsystem and vehicle phase-gate design reviews as independent reviewer
  • Define internal work processes and standards for hardware design, circuit analysis, test execution, and result documentation
  • Drive troubleshooting, failure investigation, and resolution of electrical anomalies during component testing, vehicle assembly, and environmental testing
  • Contribute to avionics product roadmap and R&D prioritization

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in electronics hardware development
  • Experience in component/LRU electrical design
  • B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Schematic and board design proficiency using software such as Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar
  • Ability to mentor and lead small teams of engineers to design complex products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing spacecraft electronics systems for Class D unmanned spacecraft or similar
  • High-speed digital printed circuit board design experience
  • Experience implementing VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards (VITA 46.0, VITA 65.0, VITA 78.0)
  • Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar task management and scheduling tools
  • Knowledge of Range Safety and Ground Safety electronics compliance
  • Mechanical CAD tools for avionics system development
  • FPGA, microcontroller, computer processor, or graphics processor programming capability
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003 or similar
  • Knowledge of space environmental testing
  • MIL-STD 461 or similar testing experience
  • M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $140,000-$160,000. Compensation varies by experience, skills, and location.
