Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer (Avionics)

Voyager Lunar Systems seeks a Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer (Avionics) to design, manufacture, and test flight avionics hardware across spacecraft subsystems. You will report to the Electronic Systems Manager and work onsite in Pittsburgh, PA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop flight hardware avionics including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command and data handling (C&DH)
  • Manage schedule, budget, and design performance for an assigned LRU or avionics subsystem, leading a multi-disciplinary team
  • Perform trade studies and verify spacecraft operating modes through design, fabrication, and testing of integrated avionics systems
  • Provide technical and programmatic guidance to internal teams, subcontractors, consultants, and partner personnel
  • Work with partners and suppliers to identify cost-effective, technically optimal component solutions
  • Test fabricated PCBs and integrated avionics systems, developing test scripts and simulations
  • Participate in environmental and qualification testing of engineering and flight design units
  • Deliver technical reports on test results and avionics and power systems advancements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years electronics hardware development experience
  • B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Component and LRU electrical design experience with ability to mentor and lead small engineering teams
  • Systems engineering experience controlling requirements, risks, and integration flow
  • Proficiency with schematic and board design tools (Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar)
  • Rapid prototyping and strong debugging skills
  • Experience with communications protocols (RS-422/RS-485/CAN/Ethernet/SPI/I2C/UART)
  • Digital, analog, and signal conditioning design skills
  • Strong communication, technical writing, and MS Office proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar task management tools
  • Knowledge of Range Safety and Ground Safety electronics compliance
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools for avionics systems development
  • Programming capability with FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, or graphic processors
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003
  • Knowledge of space environmental testing
  • Experience testing for MIL-STD 461 or similar standards
  • M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Experience developing spacecraft electronics for Class D unmanned spacecraft
  • High-speed digital printed circuit board design experience
  • Experience implementing VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards (VITA 46.0, VITA 65.0, VITA 78.0)

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Up to 20% travel, including possible overnights to support component environmental and qualification testing
  • Ability to lift, move, or carry items or equipment up to 25 pounds
