About the Role

The Systems Engineer III - MSAD contributes to the design, development, and analysis of modeling, simulation, and control systems supporting propulsion and aerospace systems. You'll support program execution through modeling, algorithm development, system-level performance assessments, and multidisciplinary collaboration, with increasing technical independence and ownership under senior engineer guidance.

This hybrid role is based in Folsom, CA and reports to the Engineering Department Manager within the Strategic Systems department.

Essential Functions

  • Develop models and control algorithms for propulsion, flight control, and guidance subsystems.
  • Support development of system simulation architectures for design iteration, verification, and validation.
  • Perform dynamic system studies and data analysis to assess system behavior, validate models against test data, and improve simulation fidelity and reliability.
  • Support control system topology definition, gain-tuning methodologies, and model anchoring techniques.
  • Contribute to program performance engineering through requirement derivation, margin analysis, performance trade studies, and Monte Carlo, sensitivity, and parametric analyses.
  • Apply physics-based modeling to mechanical, thermal, and aerodynamic subsystems and support modeling and simulation planning for new programs and R&D initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary GNC, software, systems, and test teams and participate in technical reviews and milestone events.
  • Author technical documentation, support technical trade studies and concept maturation, and mentor less experienced engineers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field from an accredited college/university.
  • 4-7 years of experience in modeling, simulation, control systems, or estimation algorithm development in the aerospace or defense industries.
  • Strong background in dynamic system modeling, control system design, and simulation infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or equivalent modeling and control toolchains.
  • Understanding of classical control techniques and competency in verification and validation of models and their use within system architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply physics-based modeling and multi-domain simulation development, including propulsion system modeling and data analysis for model validation.
  • Ability to generate SysML diagrams covering product structure, behavior, technical logic, engineering processes, and test execution.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government program requirements, and must have or be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in propulsion modeling, including solid rocket motors and controllable solids.
  • Prior experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), or equivalent government programs.

Travel and Work Environment

  • Travel up to 10% for technical reviews, tests, or customer engagements.
  • Comfortable working in secure or classified environments.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced, high-accountability development setting.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $103,100-$151,400 USD. This position is incentive plan eligible.
