Systems Engineer V - PE - Team Manager Verified today

The Role

You will serve as a senior technical project engineering lead and people manager for an engineering team. You report to the Director of Engineering in the Controllable Solid Propulsion department and lead complex defense and aerospace programs with technical direction, programmatic oversight, systems engineering execution, and team development.

What You Will Do

• Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase, or multi-contract defense and aerospace programs
• Define and guide system architecture, integration, and verification strategies aligned with customer and mission objectives
• Oversee engineering execution across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and major subcontractors, ensuring technical, cost, and schedule compliance
• Lead technical baseline definition, configuration management, system integration planning, and major design and integration reviews
• Serve as primary engineering interface to executive management and Department of Defense customers, supporting technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews
• Manage technical deliverables including Statements of Work, subcontractor deliverables, and supplier design inputs
• Support proposal development, cost estimation, and new business capture
• Develop and implement risk and opportunity management approaches and drive engineering process improvements, knowledge management, and best practices

What You Need

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university (equivalent experience may be considered)
• Ten (10) years of project engineering experience
• Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk-based engineering approaches
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution across multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and major subcontractors
• Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with ability to engage executive and customer audiences
• Proficiency with engineering management and project planning tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members in a professional engineering environment
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level

Preferred Qualifications

• Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System leadership experience
• Functional management of small, highly technical teams

Location and Travel

Hybrid or remote. Based in Folsom, CA; Reno, NV; Huntsville, AL; Long Beach, CA; or Remote (United States). Approximately 20% travel required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $153,615 to $199,400. This position is incentive plan eligible.
